Optus Stadium Manchester United Perth Glory LED

Having already won 50 awards in its short two-year history, Optus Stadium has now been shortlisted for two more awards!

This time in the prestigious international StadiumBusiness Awards to be announced in Manchester in April.

Optus Stadium is in the running to take out Venue of the Year and Event of the Year, for the Manchester United Tour to Perth.

It is often possible to gauge an award’s worth when you look at the competition in the various categories and TheStadiumBusiness awards – which have been described as the Oscars for the Stadium and Venue industry – are no exception.

Venue of the Year

Alongside Optus Stadium in the Venue of the Year Award is

  • Allianz Field in Minnesota
  • San Francisco’s Chase Center
  • Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai
  • Golden1 Center in Sacramento
  • Lord’s
  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, also in London

With the exception of Lord’s, which has been sitting on its current site since 1814 and the Golden1 Center in Sacramento which opened in 2016, all of the other shortlisted venues opened last year. Optus Stadium already has an extra year of operation under its belt, having opened in January 2018.

Event of the Year

The Event of the Year category features a diverse number of events that highlights not only the competitiveness of the category, but Optus Stadium’s standing in the world events community.

Optus Stadium’s nomination for the Manchester United FC Tour will go up against

  • Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra opening the Chase Center in San Francisco
  • the first NFL international game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London
  • the Major League Baseball Series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at London’s Olympic Stadium
  • the Miami Open makeover at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium
  • the Roger Federer versus Rafael Nadal tennis match in Cape Town

Optus Stadium has notched up 50 award wins in it’s short history in a wide range of sectors including tourism, architecture, catering, landscaping, design, building and construction.

The highlight was the 2019 Prix Versailles for Sport in acknowledgement as the most beautiful stadium in the world.
