AFL Fact Sheet
The multi-purpose Optus Stadium will be a world-class venue capable of hosting a range of events, including Australian Football League (AFL) matches.
The commitment to a ‘fans first’ stadium has resulted in an innovative design, ensuring an exceptional event atmosphere and home ground advantage that can only be experienced by being there.
Stadium – key AFL features
- The seating bowl maximises the atmosphere, gives fans exceptional views and brings them close to the action.
- East:west field orientation to replicate alignment of the MCG and Domain Stadium (Subiaco Oval).
- Field of play dimensions will be 165m along the east-west axis and 130m on the north-south axis. This is slightly shorter than Domain Stadium (Subiaco Oval) but aligned with the MCG, which is 160m x 141m.
- Using state of the art LED lighting, home team colours will be illuminated through the roof to help create a home ground advantage.
- World-class team facilities will be located on the northern side of the Stadium, either side of The Locker Room, where fans can watch their team warm up and run onto the ground.
- Dedicated changing rooms for local AFL teams: West Coast Eagles on the north-east side of the Stadium and Fremantle Football Club on the north-west .
- Team facilities over 1,000sqm that include a change room capable of accommodating 50 people.
- On game days, the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Football Club will be able to utilise two of the largest dedicated warm up spaces in Australia, a 60 person coaches briefing room, medical rooms and recovery facilities that include hot and cold spas.
- The Coaches’ Boxes are located on Level 3 of the five tiered Stadium and each home team Coaches’ Box is able to accommodate 30 people.
- There are four changing rooms for Officials – two male and two female.
- Fans will have 13 seating options including General Admission and Premium Products such as Victory Lounge, Locker Room, the Coaches Room, Club Lounges and Terraces, Suites and the Sky View Lounge.
Stadium – key ‘fans first’ features
- Future-proofed stadium technology will be provided, including full 4G coverage across the Stadium.
- Two 340sqm super screens are some of the largest in Australia and will use the latest technology when the Stadium opens in 2018.
- Over 1,000 TV screens are strategically located throughout the interior of the Stadium so fans never miss the action.
- The lightweight fabric roof will cover 85% of seats, the most coverage of any open air stadium in Australia.
- Fans will be able to utilise more than 50 food and beverage outlets and still be able to view the action on the field.
- A buffet and a la carte restaurant overlooking the Swan River provide a destination for patrons both pre and post‑game plus on non-event days.
- The Stadium will include the widest range of seating and hospitality options of any stadia in Australia.
- Cup holders are included in every seat and seats themselves will be a minimum of 50cm wide, maximising comfort for fans.
- Fans requiring higher levels of support and accessibility have access to designated seating platforms across all seating tiers, parking spaces within the Stadium Park and adult changing rooms that provide larger cubicles and additional facilities.
Transport – an integrated solution
- The transport strategy ensures the safe and efficient movement of 83% of a capacity crowd within an hour of an event finishing.
- New infrastructure includes the six-platform Optus Stadium Station and the Swan River Pedestrian Bridge.
- The Perth Stadium Bus Station in the Stadium Park and Bus Stands in East Perth provide access to city car parks and areas not currently serviced by rail.
